The International Ethnographic Film Festival (Nemzetközi Népismereti Filmszemle) has begun in Sztána (Stana), Romania!
For the third time, the Museum of Ethnography is organizing the International Ethnographic Film Festival, taking over the task from the Dr. Károly Kós Ethnographer Foundation, with whom it continues to work in excellent cooperation.
Starting on August 28, 2025, films submitted in both adult and youth categories will be screened over three days. Rather than focusing primarily on 19th-century traditions, the films present the imprint and immediacy of contemporary everyday life. On the final day, August 31, the best films will be awarded.
This year is special also because, for the first time, the Ethnographic Film Camp will be held August 24–31 for high-school students, just before the festival. During the camp, participants can get to know Sztána and its surroundings—today’s life and traditions—and, with the help of renowned experts, capture them on film as short pieces. The completed works will also be shown at the festival.
The organizers warmly welcome everyone to the screenings and programs, which are, once again, free of charge!
