What makes a holiday personal and special for us is that the period leading up to it is filled with anticipation and preparation. The joint activity creates an opportunity for discussions, provides experience and knowledge for the children, and through the joy of creation the whole family can get closer to this multifaceted holiday and its traditions, which are perhaps little known but still alive today. On 12 April, the Ethnographic Museum will host a fun-filled Easter day of activities to make all this happen!
Important information:
A single-entry ticket will be available for the day at 2,500 HUF, granting access to all exhibitions and programs. In other words, we offer a full day of events for the price of a temporary exhibition ticket.
Discounts (for students, seniors, teachers, or persons with disabilities) will NOT be applicable, as this is a special event ticket.
Tickets will be available and issued at the two ticket offices, with ticket control at the entrance. Therefore, free crossing of the museum building will be restricted on this day.
The exhibitions close at 18:00 and the shops on Damjanich Street side of the building will be open until the end of the concert at 19:00.
Thank you for your understanding!

Needle felting is a now popular dry felting technique in which wool fibres are felted together with a special needle to form a single felted fabric. To create the basic shape, a Styrofoam egg is used, surrounded by wool, which is compressed and fixed around the shape with the needle and then decorated with different patterns. The process is similar for the hen's egg, but in addition to the patterning, the mould is also made. Children and adults participating in the workshop can make 1 hen or 2 Easter egg designs.
The workshop is recommended for children aged 8 and over.
Pre-registration is required. Registration
Take part in an interactive session with a short demonstration, where Julianna Mihálynė Sápi Tóth, a master of folk art, and three generations of her family will show you and make traditional Bag hairstyles and headdresses. Orsolya Székely, film director, Zsófia Mohos, photographer and Gergő Tóth, costume researcher, will also participate in the event.
Enthusiastic visitors can join in painting a traditional Easter egg (1 egg can be decorated during the programme, provided by the museum).
Is your aloe vera overgrown, or are your shelves missing some plants? Or want to plant spring plants in the garden? The Museum of Ethnography is inviting you to a plant and seed swap to celebrate Easter. Bring in plants or seeds to sow and feel free to bring new greenery into your home, balcony or garden.
To give your plants a better chance at finding a new home, keep in mind the following:
There are no restrictions on the type of plant you can offer: houseplants, crops, garden plants, balcony plants and flower seeds for sowing.
Rooted plants should be planted in pots or in water.
Bring them in pots that don't have soil spilling out!
Do not bring cut shoots.
Do not bring more than 2-3 plants!
Do not bring plants that cannot be carried by hand!
Seed bomb making
You can make seed bombs with a seed mix of colourful annual flowers. The museum will provide the materials and you can take the bombs home to decorate your balcony garden, flowerbed or scatter them for the bees to enjoy.
Enthusiastic visitors can join in painting a traditional Easter egg (1 egg can be decorated during the programme, provided by the museum)
Anyone can experience what it's like to be a conductor with the Museum of Ethnography's new musical motif creator. The app is available at ethnofusion.neprajz.hu, but you can now conduct live musicians on Easter Festival Day! In addition to the DJ, the interactive programme will also feature Hungarian folk musicians performing famous Hungarian folk music pieces. Entrepreneurs will be able to direct the musicians by standing on the podium: who should play loudly, which motifs should be used to build the music - in other words, their own unique EthnoFusion song.
