Dávid Somfai Kara – István Sántha
Tracing Shamans in Altai-Saian and Baikal Regions Commemorating Vilmos Diószegi
In this book, Dávid Kara Somfai and István Sántha commemorate the great Hungarian ethnologist, whose 100th anniversary was celebrated in 2023. The 176-page book was published by TÜRKSOY (International Turkic Cultural Organization) in Turkish and English languages in Ankara. In this volume, we recall the most important events in Vilmos Diószegi's life and his fieldwork on shamanic practices among the Turkic and Mongolic ethnic groups of Southern Siberia and Northern Mongolia (Tuva, Khakas, Altai-Telengit, Buriad, Khotogoid, Darkhat, Uriankhai, Khamnigan). The volume is illustrated by pictures from Vilmos Diószegi's family archive and photographs taken during his fieldwork (Museum of Ethnography). The volume was edited by ethnic Khakas (Siberian Turkic) scholar Timur Davletov, an associate of TÜRKSOY.
