The SIEF  24th International Ethnological Food Research Conference will be held from September 18-20, 2024, in Budapest at the Museum of Ethnography and in Szentendre at the Hungarian Open Air Museum. This three-day event will focus on food culture, the preservation of traditional eating practices, and their social, economic, and sustainability challenges.

The conference will offer a rich program, including plenary lectures, thematic sessions, and practical workshops. The invited speakers are renowned representatives of the international research community, addressing various aspects of food heritage, including the role of food culture in shaping identity, the impacts of climate change, and the revitalization of traditional foods in contemporary societies.

A key goal of the event is to explore how preserving food heritage can strengthen community identity and how it can be integrated into sustainable development strategies. The conference will feature special sessions on the role of food culture in local development strategies, tourism, and the role of institutions and organizations in preserving cultural heritage.

The conference will take place in the new, modern building of the Museum of Ethnography, providing an ideal space for professional exchanges, presentations, and interactive programs. On the final day of the event, participants will have the opportunity to explore practical examples of showcasing Hungarian food heritage at the Open-Air Ethnographic Museum in Szentendre.
